Santa Pola

Santa Pola is a nice seaside town located on the east coast of Spain, just a short distance from Alicante. The town has a population of around 38,500 and is known for its beautiful beaches with a gradual entrance to the sea and a colourful history that dates back the to the times of the ancient Romans. The town is popular place not only for tourists but also for locals who enjoy the pleasant Mediterranean climate. The weather is warmth in summer, while the winter mild and pleasant, making the town and ideal place to stay all year round. For families with children, Santa Pola is a great place to spend a holiday. On the beaches and in various parts of the town you will find playgrounds where the youngest visitors can safely run around. A big attraction is Pola Park, a popular amusement park with attractions for all ages.

In Santa Pola you will find a wide range of shopping option, from traditional local markets to modern shopping malls. There are two markets a week, where you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables, flowers, olives, clothes and many other peculiar local products. If you fancy fresh fish, visit the port, where fishermen sell their catch straight from the sea. The city is also known for galore of restaurants, offering a rich range of dishes – from traditional Spanish tapas, fish, seafood to modern gastronomy. We highly recommend you not to forget to try churros and paella.

Santa Pola is also home to several cultural events such as festivals, concerts and exhibitions that take place throughout the year. In the summer the town is bustling with various events and celebrations, while in winter it offers a peaceful place for calming relaxation. In addition to the beaches and nice places in surrounding nature, the town also offers beautiful views that can be enjoyed from the lighthouse and walks in the port.

Trips in the surrounding area

Santa Pola offers a wide range of activities for all types of visitors. The town provides many opportunities for walks, especially along the coastal promenade and the port. In the nearby area you can visit salinas – salt lakes, which are home to flamingos and other water birds. Suitable place for nature observation and shooting. If you fancy culture and history, be sure to visit the local Mediterranean Aquarium, the Museum of the Sea in a Renaissance fortress. Boats regularly depart from the port to pirate island Tabarca (the smallest permanently inhabited island in Spain), where you can spend the whole day exploring beautiful beaches, crystal clear water and picturesque lanes.

Santa Pola is also close to several other interesting cities that are worth visiting. In Alicante just 20-minute drive away, you can visit historical monuments such a Santa Bárbara castle or stroll along the famous Explanada de España promenade. The city of Elche boasts the largest palm grove in Europe, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. In Cartagena, you can admire the ancient amphitheater and in Valencia, visit the fascinating oceanographic Museum, which is the largest aquarium in Europe.
